Vintage O’Neill Thermore Puffer Jacket — Made in Holland (1980s–Early 1990s)
An eye-catching original O’Neill winter jacket from the late 1980s to early 1990s, proudly Made in Holland and insulated with Thermore® Originale filling — a high-performance synthetic used in premium ski and surf outerwear of the era.
Featuring a bold geometric print in vibrant teal, lime, blue, and black over a clean white base, this jacket captures the unmistakable energy of early ‘90s surf-snow crossover fashion. Inside, it bears the classic O’Neill “Original Sportswear” label with personal ID lines — a signature of the brand’s authentic European production period.
• Material: 100% Polyester (Shell, Lining & Filling)
• Insulation: Thermore® Originale (Made in Italy)
• Origin: Made in Holland
• Fit: Perfectly oversized on 180cm / 73kg (modern L-XL relaxed silhouette)
• Condition: Overall good vintage condition with some marks (see photos).
• Founded: 1952
• Founder: Jack O’Neill, in Santa Cruz, California
• Initial focus: Surf gear and wetsuits
Jack O’Neill was a surfer and inventor who opened one of the first surf shops in the world, in a garage near Ocean Beach, San Francisco. His main goal was simple but revolutionary — to stay longer in the cold Pacific waters.
He eventually developed the first neoprene wetsuit, which completely transformed surfing by making it a year-round sport.
During the 1980s–1990s, O’Neill expanded into snow sports apparel, blending surf aesthetics with alpine technology. This era produced some of the brand’s most collectible pieces — colorful, geometric ski jackets and puffers like yours — often insulated with Thermore® or Thinsulate™, and produced in Europe.
These jackets represented the fusion of surf and snowboard subcultures — bright, loud, confident, and expressive.
His personal story — losing an eye in a surf accident and still surfing daily into old age — gave the brand authenticity few others could match.
