Trail of Life Decayed is a 1991 demo by the Swedish melodic death metal band Dark Tranquillity. It was one of the band's earliest and most foundational recordings, showcasing their raw and intelligent approach to the emerging Gothenburg metal sound.
The demo was recorded over three days in March 1991 at Dark Studios in Gothenburg, Sweden, and was co-produced by the band.
Trail of Life Decayed is an aggressive and raw but still mature debut for the band. It is considered an important release in the history of the melodic death metal genre, as it was a key stepping stone for Dark Tranquillity and helped establish the sound of the Gothenburg metal scene. Following this demo, the band went on to release their debut album Skydancer in 1993.
