From regal tales of dragonwarfare (“The Bard’s Song — The Hobbit,”) to minstrel ballads (“TheBard’s Song — In the Forest,”) to Blind Guardian’s trademarkearly-’90s speed metal matrix of hyper riffs and melodicmulti-voiced choruses (“Journey Through the Dark,” “Ashes toAshes,” and “Somewhere Far Beyond,”) every pompous, excessive baseis covered. Practically unknown in America, Blind Guardian hadgrown into quite a formidable metal outfit by the time of this 1992release. The coming worldwide revival of ’80s-influenced Europeanmetal certainly did their bourgeoning career no harm and the groupbegan penetrating the U.S. market.
