France’sEibon are back with their sophomore album after their excellentdebut Entering Darkness and II definitely pushed their soundforward with its adventurous format of two song for forty minutesof music. Eibon has ever been one of the greates bands that areable to mix doom, death, black, sludge and psychodelic metal and Ido love the fact that they keep their brief tradition of releasingjust two songs at a time. This time the band has added samples inFrench related to the First World War and this mixed with theawesome painting of Otto Dix, really evokes the despair and themindless violence of The Great War. The suffocation of the trenchesand the foul, deadly odour of the mustard gas are presentthroughout the long dirges. It’s not something romantic like thegardens of Versailles, it’s the dark look of 20th century France,full of bitterness, full of rivalries, full of corpses. Eibon’ssound is massive and ugly like a beautiful woman giving birth to amidget. It has this appeal that only the masters of the genre canachieve. Fans of doom and sludge should takenotice.
