Until DeathOvertakes Me is a solo project, the work of multi-instrumentalistStijn Cauter. No, this is not another black metal act, even if thecover art might mislead you into thinking that way. This is ambientfuneral doom and the album Days Without Hope clocks in at 74minutes and includes just six compositions. To get directly to thepoint, this release is pretty much what its title implies: hopelessand depressive. Long-lasting tracks and in typical funeral doommood, slow in tempos, many including long musical breaks. In fact,this album can almost be considered as an instrumental work. Thevocals are discreet growls that bear a certain ghostly feel in someinstances. They are more of a spoken, but undecipherable, nature.Lots of ambient and orchestral keyboards can be heard on thisalbum. Distorted leads and crushing riffs form the basic metalelements. The overall feel of this music is melancholic,depressive, haunting and ambient, all of which done whilemaintaining a melodic level at all times.
