Arizona actVektor actually breathed life into a slightly outdated progressivethrash metal genre with their debut album Black Future in 2009. Andthey did it in a rather interesting way and showed that generallyin metal music the last word had not been said yet. Their music isheavily themed around scientific, philosophical, futuristic andastronomical topics and reading the lyrics and looking at the logoits easy to see that the band has a soft spot for Voivod. Howevertheir technical and progressive brand also sounds inspired byCoroner, Watchtower and Mekong Delta. If Black Future started as aquiet buzz then it quickly grew to a deafening roar of rave reviewsfrom the press and scores of comments from fans in hundreds ofblogs, news sites and message boards with their follow up album,Outer Isolation in 2011. Not many know that the story of Vektorgoes further back than 2009 when Black Future was released. Theband made two self financed demos Demo-lition in 2007 and the twotrack promo cdR disc Hunger For Violence in 2007. But thats notall. The history of the band started as early as 2002 under thename of Locrian where they released a 4-track demo in 2003. What wehave here is the first official re-release of Vektors first demo.So you do get some unreleased material as well as early versions ofOblivion and Destroying The Cosmos that later were e-recorded forBlack Future and Fast Paced Society, Venus Project andTetrastructural Minds that later were re-recorded for OuterIsolation. The sound is obviously not so pro as the band’s latergestation would allow, but it’s more than decent enough for amateurthrash, especially when played at this level of conviction andambition. One rarity here is the heavily Voivod influencedMoonbase, a 13 minute epic that plods for an infinity into someeerie, alien depths. Demolition create a lot of stark, violentimagery. In the end, Demolition is worth hearing if you alreadyenjoy Vektor, but start with Black Future if you’re new and want tobe blown into atoms.
