Back in1988 the band released their anthemic mission statement Kings OfMetal. They hardly proclaimed that other bands play, Manowar kills.This was just one of Manowars hilarious moments but at the sametime it was a damn fine album and maybe one of the bands finesthours with the bigger and better production. Music wise, in myopinion, nothing will ever beat the Hail To England album. AnywayKings Of Metal was a good album full of the typical glorious Vikingconquest, drinking thy last ale and songs about bikes, women andthe glory of Manowar itself. You would be hard pressed to find amore arrogant, chauvinistic and nerdy album even in the eightiesmetal scene. The band itself took their image into stupidity, astupidity they still hold on to. However the album is a classicmetal album that has tons of balls and power. Hail And Kill is oneof those tunes you could play for anyone that wonder what Heavymetal was all about as it defined metal. The band for whateverreason decided to re-record this classic album in 2013. This provedto be a really bad decision and it would just continue. Theydecided to change name on all the song titles by added The, Thy, Onas well as MMXIV to the beginning and the end of the titles. Wellyou dont need to look at the cover while listening to the album somaybe this could have been forgiven. But then the album starts withHail And Kill MMXIV and youre jaw will drop. The track has lost itspower and balls. The Atlantic budget in the late 80s is obviouswhat made the album. Joey DeMaio’s Magic Circle Entertainment hastried to re-record this album on cheap pro-tools on a shittybudget. Atleast it sounds that way. Its flat, powerless and slick.Kings Of Metal MMXIV, On Wheels Of Fire MMXIV is just the same.Totally worthless. The Blood Of The Kings MMXIV has new lyrics andsounds shit. And when you thought DeMaio couldnt get any morestupid and pompous then he makes this new version of The Sting OfThe Bumblebee MMXIV with a metronome beeping on it so you can countthe speed on his bass playing. For gods sake keep this man out ofthe studio and any other decisions regarding this band. I thoughtthe death of this band happened already back in the late 90s asevery album after that seems to have been just another nail in thecoffin. Then they managed to release The Dawn Of Battle EP in 2002with the tracks that were to much metal to be included on theoperatic and slick Warriors Of The World misfire. This is the lasttime this band ever managed to recapture anything of their pastglory. So is the Kings Of Metal MMXIV worth buying at all. Well theanswer is both yes and no. You need to buy it on cd so you canprogramme the few tracks worth listening to and they are few. Mostof the tracks will just make you angry and questioning why theyhave destroyed their own songs. But there are a few tracks herethat actually are worth hearing, The Heart Of Steel MMXIV, TheCrown And The Ring MMXIV two tracks that has improved sound thatfits so well with Eric Adams performance. Both tracks are equal ormaybe even better than the originals. The third tracks is theinstrumental guitar version of The Heart Of Steel MMXIV becausewhen you have heard the first ten tracks youre just so desperate tohear a guitar again. This album also features an instrumental bonuscd so you can share youre last ales with your friends and do aManowar karaokee. You can drink, shout and scream and think ofthose days when they were the kings of metal
