24 years of silence were more than enough. It was way back in1999 when Scheitan ‘s third and final album Nemesis appeared. Andnot only they were absent from the music scene, but they made sureon their return to adopt a completely new musical style, nuggets ofwhich they sporadically made their appearance in the past. Afterall, what’s more beautiful for an artist than to progress andexperiment on new paths? Scheitan started out in the black metaldays and have now evolved into a gothic rock band. Founder PierreTörnkvist thanked his old friend Oscar, who sadly is not among usanymore, but who introduced him to goth stuff like The Sisters ofMercy and Fields of The Nephilim many years ago. Pierre also saidthat he had alot of darkness that needed to get out of his systemso writing and recording a goth record was a sort of self-therapy.Jump forward to 2025 and Pierre has released a second album fromthe rebirth Scheitan, Wine For A Tormented Soul. Musically,Scheitan remain faithful to the Gothic Rock path they paved withSongs For The Gothic People. The compositions here continue tobattle one another for dominance, each track vying to be the onethat leaves the deepest mark. The production is once againcrystalline and forceful, but this time, it’s Pierre Törnkvist’svocals that show remarkable evolution. Every Little Thing issteeped in emotional gravity, and it closes with a child’s voicethat elevates the entire piece to something almost otherworldly inits beauty. As for Döden Är Helt Underbar, the vocals transcend.Pierre sings as if bidding farewell to the world, as if standingbefore a firing squad, leaving behind one last lament to echo intothe void. A dirge, fragile and devastating. And this is noexaggeration: songs like these are rare. When they do appear, theydon’t just resonate, they haunt. Once again this is an album thatgothic rock lovers need to explore
