With The Helsinki Tapes the band closes the book on one of themore cursed chapters of their career. Niklas Kvarforth has, oncountless occasions, mentioned the month that he spent togetherwith Christian Larsson and Yusaf Parvez (DHG) in an apartment thatthey rented in Finland’s capital. The three resolved to use thisspace as a base in which to write, experiment and cause variousforms of unspecified damage before heading to Varberg to record thenew album. For years, the band has wished that these infamous demotapes could be released officially somehow. Now comes The HelsinkiTapes which is the original recording that the band themselves havestressed: Is in so many ways far superior to the actual albumitself. We may or may not agree on that, but there’s certainly amesmerizing rawness and constant feeling of unease contained withinthis otherworldly material. Not to mention, the tapes serve as anaudial retelling of how an obscure Black Metal band from Swedentransformed into something different and ultimately way moredangerous than even those involved ever could have anticipated.
