Devastator has released many albums, a lot many to criticalacclaim because that band is playing a style of music thats hard todislike – Thrash Metal with leanings to early Black Metal, of thekind that can be compared to the first two albums-era Slayer, Venomand the likes. Thats like staple food man, thats like rice for theAsians. If you dont like it then youre an outcast instantly. Yourean immigrant. Nocturnal Slut is the sixth album already byDevastator, the blackened thrash metal group from Florida. Its toolate for the band to change its style and something tells me thatthe band wont listen to me, so I wont even try. Its apparentlyvery, very comfortable playing in this style and thats the bestpart about this band. Its not trying hard – its just playing whatcomes out naturally, thats vital. The music is analog-wannabe andthats a good thing here. Its not as rabid as say Mantak nor aspolished or as focused as its European counterparts, but maybe itdoesnt want to be like that. It remains under the gigantic shadowof the aforementioned bands, and while those bands peaked long ago,Devastator peaks every time. Like I said, Nocturnal Slut has littleto dislike except for the lack of originality or extremity, for thesake of an argument. Yes, its extreme metal no doubt, but thisstyle has obviously evolved to interpret the essence in bestialforms, so to speak, but Devastators brand of Black/Thrash is potentas it is and is making quite an impression just like this –besides, trying too hard sucks. Its like an immigrant trying toblend in. We dont want that now, do we? Us narrow-minded, oldschool-loving assholes.
