The Chicago Colortype Company began doing business around 1895 as a photographic printing and engraving plant that used a three-color printing process developed by Gustav Zeese. Zeese began his career as secretary at Chicago Colortype and then moved to manager of the manufacturing department. The Chicago Colortype Company merged with Osgood Art Colortype between 1895 and 1900. In 1900, Gustav Zeese moved the Osgood Art Colortype Company to New York and renamed it the Osgood Colortype Company. It remained in business until 1904 when it was consolidated with American Three Color Company and National Colortype to become the American Colortype Company.
