The book is perhaps a bit dry in terms of presentation and tone, and how many times must he use the term 'ponderous'?! But its value as an in-depth investigation into the beginnings of Art Nouveau, and its exponents and influences, whilst not veering too uncomfortably off-track, is undoubted.

Still a very usefull and informative book sounding the foundation of the art nouveau movement all around the world .

Stephan Tschudi Madsen’s Sources of Art Nouveau was an enormously useful pioneer book—well written and well documented. It studies Art Nouveau and Its influence on British and European arts, architecture, and crafts from 1890 to the first years of the 20th century.
