TABLETTENAUFLAGE
Hersteller ERICH SCHUMM GmbH, Murrhardt/Württ.
This is the classic folding Esbit solid-fuel pocket stove design. The Murrhardt/Württ. maker location is especially interesting, as Esbit production is documented as moving from Stuttgart to Murrhardt around 1943. The D.R.P. mark refers to Deutsches Reichspatent, but D.R.P. marking alone should not be used as an absolute pre-1945 guarantee, since some post-war Esbit stoves also retained D.R.P. style markings.
—————
Material:
Pressed steel construction, originally zinc-coated / galvanized style.
The surface now has heavy age patina, oxidation, darkened areas, rust spots, heat staining, scratches, and wear from use and storage.
No fuel tablets included.
—————
Design:
Compact folding pocket stove for Esbit solid fuel tablets.
The design is simple but very clever: when closed, the stove forms a flat metal box that can carry the fuel tablets inside. When opened, the side panels fold up and work as pot supports / wind protection.
The embossed instruction graphics show how the stove opens and how the fuel tablet is placed on the central tray.
This is a strong small object for collectors of vintage camping gear, German field equipment, early outdoor equipment, military-style utility design, or compact survival/cooking tools.
—————
Function:
The stove opens and closes.
Sold as a vintage collectible / display piece rather than a modern guaranteed cooking stove.
Because of age, rust, oxidation, and long storage, it has not been cleaned or restored. Use with fuel or flame is at the buyer’s own discretion.
—————
Condition and wear:
Used vintage condition with strong signs of age, use, heat exposure, and storage.
Heavy patina, oxidation, rust marks, surface scratches, dark staining, worn plating, small dents, and general wear throughout.
The embossed text and graphics remain visible, including the Esbit logo, Kocher Mod. 9 marking, D.R.P. marking, and Erich Schumm maker information.
The stove has a very authentic aged look. Not polished, restored, or cleaned aggressively.
—————
History:
Esbit is one of the most famous names in compact solid-fuel cooking equipment. The name is commonly explained from Erich Schumm Brennstoff in Tablettenform — Erich Schumm’s fuel in tablet form. Esbit solid fuel tablets were developed in the 1930s, and pocket-format stoves followed soon after.
The Mod. 9 pocket stove became known for its extremely practical construction: a small folding steel case that works both as a fuel carrier and as a cooking stand. The basic Esbit pocket stove principle has remained closely associated with the brand for decades because it solves a very clear problem — carrying a compact, lightweight heat source for food or drink preparation outdoors. Esbit’s own modern history page still describes the pocket stove as a product from the beginning of the brand, small, quick to assemble, and with space for solid fuel inside.
The wartime-era Esbit stoves are also associated with German field use during the Second World War, where solid fuel tablets were useful for heating food because they were compact, efficient, and relatively smokeless. This listing does not claim that this exact stove was military-issued or battlefield-used, only that the model belongs to the historical Esbit pocket-stove tradition and carries period-style German patent and maker markings.
The strongest appeal of this piece is the combination of visible maker marks, practical folding construction, aged steel surface, and compact industrial design. It is a small but historically interesting object from the development of portable outdoor cooking equipment.
—————
Important vintage note:
This is a vintage second-hand item with age, use, and history. Age-related wear, imperfections, and colour variation from lighting or screen settings should be expected. These are not grounds for post-purchase discounts or claims. Please purchase only if you are comfortable with the nature of vintage items. If you are looking for a perfect, mint condition item, please avoid this.
