Beskrivning
For sale is my Colnago C64, size 50s. The bike is in excellent condition, built with Campagnolo Record components and Campagnolo Shamal Ultra wheels. A modern classic from what was arguably one of the most interesting eras in Colnago’s history.
The bike weighs only 6,9 kg in its current configuration.
The C64 is something rather special, even in the world of Colnago. At a time when much of the bicycle industry had moved towards moulding carbon frames as large monocoque structures, Colnago continued to build its C-series in a completely different way.
Just like its legendary predecessors, the C64 was constructed from separate carbon-fibre tubes joined by carbon-fibre lugs, individually fitted and assembled by hand. The tubes and joints were shaped, finished and bonded together at Colnago in Cambiago, Italy. Colnago themselves described the C64 as a masterpiece of craftsmanship and, at the time, the flagship of the C-series – entirely handmade in Italy.
In essence, it follows the same traditional Italian frame-building philosophy once used for the finest steel frames, with separate tubes and lugs – only here executed in advanced carbon fibre. The tradition goes back to the legendary C40, the bike that demonstrated in the 1990s that a carbon-fibre racing bicycle built this way could win at the very highest level.
The C64 is light and extremely responsive when climbing, but perhaps even more impressive is its stability as the speed increases. On fast descents it has a composure and precision that make it feel considerably more modern than its age would suggest.
Drivetrain – upgraded for serious mountain riding
The drivetrain has recently been professionally serviced and modified to provide considerably more climbing-friendly gearing than the original setup.
It is currently equipped with:
50/34 chainrings and an 11–32 cassette.
At the rear is a Campagnolo Centaur medium-cage derailleur, combined with compatible Campagnolo 11-speed shifting components.
The result is the crisp, precise and unmistakable feel of mechanical Campagnolo shifting, while the 34×32 lowest gear makes the bike genuinely capable on long and steep mountain climbs.
Wheels – Campagnolo Shamal Ultra
The bike is fitted with Campagnolo Shamal Ultra wheels, a particularly fitting combination for an Italian C64 equipped with mechanical Campagnolo.
The rear wheel has recently been professionally serviced and trued by Richard at Cycling in Stockholm.
