Rare R2R tape: Bergman's The Magic Flute, by Mozart -- 7 1/2ips CRC 1R1 6563

This is a boxed 7 1/2 ips tape of the Columbia Records Club release of "The Highlights from the Original Soundtrack of Ingmar Bergman's The Magic Flute".

W. A. Mozart* / Sveriges Radios Symfoniorkester, Radiokören – Trollflöjten = Die Zauberflöte = The Magic Flute Ingmar Bergman

A&M Records/Columbia Record Club/BBC
1R1 6563

BOX: VG+
Box, spine, and the inner label are clean, crisp, free of water damage or heavy foxing.
(NOTE that the factory blue "Quality Protection" sticker is partially intact on the bottom left corner of the black box. This item has been handled with care).

TAPE: VG+ (I should put NM-, the leader tape has the original end tape marking, which means that the tape has never torn from wear at the run-in.)

Plays beautifully. On my system it clearly outperforms my two box sets on vinyl of this production.

A&M widely distributed "The Highlights from the Original Soundtrack of Ingmar Bergman's The Magic Flute" on standard vinyl LP and 8-track tape in 1976. This release/version does not appear in any catalogs, discogs, etc, as it went to members of the Columbia Record Club (CRC, later renamed to Columbia House).

The 1R1 6563 catalog number does not appear on Discogs or anywhere else, due to the limited distribution of the tape. CRC distributed most of its releases on 3 3/4 speed tape. The 7 1/2ips versions are sought after.
BBC appears on the box and reel-label because it had the international distribution rights and A&M Records were obligated to reference the BBC.

7 ½ IPS, 4-Track Stereo consumer club edition manufactured by Columbia Record Club (CRC).
Issued in a hinged cardboard box. Insert/labels feature the BBC Broadcasting House postal code: ? 1976 BBC LONDON W1A1AA.
Spine displays the text: "4 TRACK 7½ IPS STEREO", "THE MAGIC FLUTE", "CRC", "1R1 6563", and the A&M Records logo.
