Status Quo -Works 10" UK pressed 8-track EP Pictures of matchstick man

1983 UK pressing on 10 inch vinyl

Status Quo had a hit single from their debut album, Picturesque Matchstickable Messages From The Status Quo, released in 1968. The single was the now psychedelic classic Pictures Of Matchstick Men (a Top Ten hit in the UK and reaching number 12 in the US). But when the following album Spare Parts didnt get the attention the band wanted they decided to refashion themselves as a hard rock boogie band in 1970 with their Ma Kelly's Greasy Spoon album. It was here that organ player Roy Lynes decided to quit and The Frantic Four were born. The Frantic Four was Francis Rossi, Rick Parfitt, Alan Lancaster and John Coghlan. Just reading these names will give any Quo fan goosebumps. It took them a couple of albums to really find their feet, including 1971's underrated Dog Of Two Head. But when the band shifted record label then things moved fast and when the band released the awesome Piledriver 1972 then they had that barnstorming album that propelled them right up onto the a-list in the UK. This 10 single features tracks from those early psychedelic years to the one of the first Frantic Four track, Mean Girl. Interesting listening for sure
