Beskrivning

legenden till salu!

- Bajonett med lång, rak klinga, tvärskydd och räfflat grepp samt metallbalja.

Bajonett m/1896 (Swedish Model 1896 knife bayonet) is a well-built, minimalist, and all-steel utility bayonet designed for the Swedish Mauser m/1896 rifle (as well as later fitting the m/1938 rifle and Ag m/42 Ljungman rifle). [1, 2]
Key Specifications & Design
  • Blade Length: ~8.37 inches (21.27 cm) [1]
  • Overall Length: ~13.25 inches (33.65 cm) [1]
  • Blade Type: Single-edged blade with a central fuller and a slight false edge near the point (though early prototypes or rare variants experimented with double edges). [1, 2, 3]
  • Hilt Construction: Distinctive hollow, cylindrical, oval-cross-section steel hilt with ribbed texturing—notable for lacking traditional wood or brass scale grips. [1, 2]
  • Muzzle Ring: Round muzzle ring sized specifically for the 6.5x55mm Swedish Mauser barrel. [1, 2]
  • Scabbard: All-steel scabbard with an internal spring throat and a ball-shaped finial, paired with a leather frog. [1, 2, 3]
  • Service Life: Adopted around 1897 and remained in official Swedish military service until 1962. [1, 2]

  • Durability: The all-metal construction is exceptionally solid and sturdy for a knife-style bayonet.
  • Modularity / Assembly: Historically delivered to units in pieces to be fitted and stamped by regimental armorers, the design is easy to disassemble and maintain.
  • Aesthetics & Ergonomics: Widely praised by collectors as one of the most stylish and futuristic-looking 19th-century bayonet designs.
  • Affordability and Availability: They are relatively common on the surplus market and usually inexpensive. [1, 2, 3, 4]
Cons / Historical Evolution Issues
  • Locking Mechanism Evolution:
    • Early models (1896–1905) featured a flat catch lock, which proved somewhat weaker.
    • Around 1905–1906, the design was upgraded to a sturdier conical catch lock, and an order was issued to retrofit or replace the older flat catches. [1, 2, 3]
  • Tang Limitations: The internal tang is short, meaning the handle/tang assembly was never engineered to support a long-sword-style blade. [1]
Collector & User Notes
  • Manufacturers: were produced by Eskilstuna Jernmanufaktur Aktiebolaget (EJ AB) in Sweden
