Beskrivning

This is a Swedish late-19th-century advertising token from Otto Wallenius & Co., Göteborg, a wine and spirits merchant. It is not a monetary token in the normal sense, but a reklampollett—essentially a durable metal advertisement.
The identification is confirmed by Swedish numismatic auction records, which describe this exact type as a round 29 mm copper advertising token.
One side reads approximately:
OTTO WALLENIUS & CO
VIN & SPIRITUOSA
HANDEL
GÖTEBORG

The other side advertises the firm's products, prominently including its “Prisbelönt Kavalleri Punsch” (“Prize-winning Cavalry Punch”), together with sweet, medium-sweet and dry varieties and various wines and spirits such as Champagne, Bordeaux wine, port, sherry and cognac. Contemporary numismatic descriptions confirm this wording and product advertisement.
The dating can actually be narrowed better than some dealer listings suggest. Otto Wallenius & Co. was already operating in Göteborg in 1874, with its office and distillery at Smedjegatan 3 and a warehouse at Norra Hamngatan 14. A Göteborg address directory specifically advertises distilled and purified brännvin, cognac, punsch and wines—the same business represented on this token.
More importantly, historical research records that Alfred Nygren joined Otto Wallenius & Co. in 1865 and that the firm ceased operating under that name in 1892. I would therefore date your token more conservatively to approximately 1870s–1892, probably the 1880s, rather than the occasionally quoted “1890–1910.” Otto Wallenius himself died in 1889, which also fits this late-19th-century context.
Your specimen appears around Fine to VF, perhaps Swedish 1?/1, with the Otto Wallenius side noticeably stronger than the heavily worn advertising side. The lettering remains sufficiently complete for positive attribution, and the copper has an old brown/reddish patina. There are scattered surface deposits but nothing I would attempt to remove.
The market is quite modest. An exact Otto Wallenius & Co. token sold on Tradera on 23 August 2026 for only 25 SEK, although that is just one auction result. An older Swedish numismatic sale grouped an Otto Wallenius example and an Alfred Nygren example with values around 50–60 SEK each, while a specialist dealer currently asks 395 SEK for an Otto Wallenius example.
For yours I would therefore use roughly:
Auction value: 30–80 SEK
Realistic collector value: 75–150 SEK
Specialist retail asking price: perhaps 200–350 SEK
The monetary value is low, but historically this is one of the more interesting Swedish advertising tokens you've shown. It is a surviving advertisement from Göteborg's private wine and spirits trade before the Swedish alcohol monopoly system, and the lavish promotion of “prize-winning Kavalleri Punsch” gives it a strong period character.
