Beskrivning
This is a Finland 1 Penni dated 1913, issued during the reign of Nicholas II, when Finland was still the autonomous Grand Duchy of Finland within the Russian Empire.
The coin is catalogued as KM#13 / Numista N#6796. It was struck at the Mint of Finland in Helsinki in copper, weighs about 1.28 g, measures 15 mm, and has a plain edge.
The side shown in your photograph carries simply:
1
PENNI
1913
surrounded by a beaded border. The other side, assuming it is the normal matching obverse, should show the crowned N II monogram of Emperor Nicholas II. Both sides were engraved by Aleksander Fadejev.
Historically, this is a late Imperial Russian-era Finnish coin. Finland had its own currency, the markka, despite remaining under Russian sovereignty. The penni was 1/100 of a markka. Your coin was struck only four years before the Russian Revolution and Finland's declaration of independence in December 1917.
The 1913 mintage was 1,650,000, so it is not a major rarity, although it is less common than several surrounding dates.
From the side shown, the condition looks unusually strong. The denomination, date and beaded border are very sharp and the copper has an attractive even brown surface with what may be traces of original reddish color. I would want to see the Nicholas II side before assigning a firm grade, but based solely on this photograph I would be thinking approximately AU to possibly low Mint State, rather than an ordinary circulated example.
Current indicative values for the 1913 are approximately CHF 1.80 in XF, CHF 4.70 in AU and CHF 8.10 in UNC. In practical terms, I would expect roughly:
ordinary XF: 20–40 SEK
nice AU: 40–70 SEK
true UNC: 75–125 SEK
exceptionally attractive red/brown Mint State: potentially more.
So this is not a high-value coin, but your specimen may be worth keeping separate from bulk material because the visible side is substantially nicer than the average 1913 1 Penni.
If you send the other side, I can give you a much tighter grade estimate.
