Since itsfirst release in 2010, Ashen Eidolon has become one of the topfaves of many Atmospheric Black Metal fans. The album displays aclear influence from early Agalloch and can easily be compared toother names in the melodic black/folk realm such as Winterfylleth,Falls Of Rauros, Falkenbach, and Wodensthrone. However, it is clearupon first listen that despite these similarities, Gallowbraid iscertainly its own unique entity. Jake Rogers, also in Visigoth, hasa masterful talent for melody and composition and additionallyAshen Eidolon proves him to be a capable musician and vocalist. MrRogers knows how to bring back a musical motif in a way that isjust plain pleasing to the ears. The mixture of folk with blackmetal on Ashen Eidolon is excellent and few other bands in thegenre have done it so well. All the components fit together like ajigsaw puzzle – every element feels like it was made specificallyfor the others. It is really a must-have for fans of the genre anda great starting point for those interested what good black/folkmetal sounds like.
