Ten Million Holidays. One Timeless Camera.
Olympus designed the Trip 35 for the holiday snapshot, named it accordingly, and watched it become one of the best-selling cameras ever made. Introduced in 1967 and produced until 1984, it sold more than ten million units, helped along by a famous advertising campaign fronted by British photographer David Bailey. The secret is in the honeycomb ring around the lens: a selenium cell that powers the light meter from daylight alone, so the Trip 35 has never needed a battery. Behind it sits a 40mm f/2.8 D.Zuiko lens, a four-element Tessar-type design far sharper than a holiday camera had any right to be. Set the focus zone, press the shutter and the camera does the rest; if the light is too low, a small red flag pops up in the viewfinder and the shutter locks, sparing you a wasted frame. In Very Good condition, it shows light signs of age and use. For the traveler who wants a camera without chargers or cables, or the photographer drawn to one of the most charming designs of the 1960s.
Format: 35mm zone-focus compact
